First Deepend Teacher Workshop
The first Deepend Teacher Workshop occurred on Saturday April 18, 2015 with 13 teacher learning about the DEEPEND program, background content about the deep sea environment and STEM-related activities they can take back to their classrooms to use with students. These teachers are now applying to be a DEEPEND Teacher-at-Sea and 3 of them will be joining the DEEPEND team on cruises throughout the year. Deepwater Horizon oil spill caused lasting damage, report says
WASHINGTON — Dolphins are dying in unusually high numbers. Sea turtle nests are declining.
Tuna are developing abnormally. And pelicans and gulls are still suffering from the lasting effects of a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico five years ago, the National Wildlife Federation warned in a report released Monday.
The impact is concentrated in the northern Gulf, but scientists say the long-term damage affects spawning waters for many fish that migrate to South Florida, the Caribbean and along the East Coast

Dr. Sutton's talk was "Fishes, shrimps, and cephalopods of the oceanic Gulf: research since DwHOS."
